D1. What albums have they released?

To date, TOOL have released 5 full-length LP’s. They are Undertow, Ænima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum.

They have also released two EP’s, Opiate and Salival.

Before they were signed, they released a cassette tape demo, titled 72826.

D2. What about singles?

They have released 14 singles to date. They are “Hush” “Sober” “Prison Sex” “Stinkfist” “H.” “Ænema” “Forty-Six & 2” “Schism” “Lateralus” “Parabola” “Vicarious” “The Pot” “Jambi,” and “Fear Inoculum”.

D3. Have they made any videos?

Yes. They have made 8 music videos so far. They are “Hush” “Sober” “Prison Sex” “Stinkfist” “Ænema” “Schism” “Parabola” and “Vicarious”

While TOOL themselves technically did not release it, on 11 March 2020, drum (and stick) maker Vic Firth released a live drum cam video of Danny performing “Pneuma“ in Boston on their YouTube channel, which TOOL themselves shared as well.

D4. I heard about an unofficial-official bootleg?

TOOL’s label, Zoo Entertainment, released a single/EP in the Netherlands in 1994, titled Sober: Tales From the Darkside that featured 8 live recordings. It was only available there and to get it anywhere else, you’d have to “bootleg” it elsewhere, hence the term “unofficial-official”. (Catalog # 74321 22604 2)

D5. What about other bootlegs?

This FAQ only deals with official releases, so if you wish to find out about other bootlegs, feel free to utilize Google.

D6. Are their videos available for purchase?

Salival is no longer being pressed/printed and is fairly hard to find now. The ones that do show up tend to be expensive.

But, “Schism” Parabola” and “Vicarious” physical copies are relatively easy to find in most music stores and are usually around $10 or so. The band has also released their videos on digital streaming services now.

D7. Is their music available on digital now?

As of 7 August 2019, most of their back catalog, sans 72826 and Salival are now available for purchase and streaming via digital platforms such as Spotify, Google Play Music, and Apple Music, to name a few.

D8. What about “No Quarter”?

This is a cover of the Led Zeppelin song they played several times live and is only available on Salival.

D9. Are there any one-off songs and/or covers?

TOOL has covered other songs throughout the years. They are:

D10. I heard there were remixes?

There are two official remixes. “Schism” and “Parabola” were remixed by Lustmord and are only available on their respective physical singles.

At Lollapalooza 1997, Billy Howerdel, TOOL’s former guitar tech and current guitarist for A Perfect Circle, created lounge versions of “Hooker With A Penis” and “Third Eye” and were heard over the PA in between sets.

Dave Ogilve of Skinny Puppy reportedly did two remixes each of “Stinkfist” and “Forty-Six & 2” but the band caught wind and buried them.

D11. Have TOOL collaborated with any other musicians?

TOOL and Rage Against the Machine collaborated  in a roughly 7-minute song known only as “Revolution”. 

TOOL and The Melvins also collaborated on a 14-minute song called “Divorced” that appears on the Melvins album The Crybaby.

On 21 November 1995, an album came out on Zoo Records (TOOL’s label) under the name “The Replicants.” The album is a collection of eleven covers of old songs by Paul McCartney, Syd Barrett, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, the Cars, etc.

The Replicants themselves were Paul D’Amour, Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards of Failure, and Cris Pitman of Zaum (a Danny side project). Maynard made a guest appearance, singing McCartney’s “Silly Love Songs”.

D12. Is there any TOOL-related software?

When the band released “Ænima” they also released a screensaver of the animated Smokebox, but it is no longer available.

D13. What TOOL albums have been released on vinyl?

The band has officially released Opiate, Undertow, Ænima, and Lateralus LP’s, and the singles “Selections From Aenima” “Stinkfist” and “Cesaro Summability”.
